Hello, my name is Weiyan (Annie) Liu. I have been working in the Little Assets Early Learning Centre as an Early Childhood Teacher in the Purple Room since June, 2015. I was then promoted as the Educational Leader focusing on curriculum planning in August in the same year. I completed my Bachelor of Arts in China, and accomplished my first Master of Teaching degree with Melbourne University specialising in Primary teaching in 2011. Since then, I have been actively involved in various educational settings, including government and independent schools as well as early childhood services. Because of my increased interest in early childhood education during the time, I eventually went back for further professional development and graduated with my 2nd Master of Teaching (Early Childhood) degree with Monash University.
Owing to my consistent educational background about children from birth until school age, I always take a holistic approach to teaching and learning. I am convinced that children's enthusiasm towards learning is one of the most precious treasures in their life. It is, therefore, early childhood educators’ responsibility to keep an inviting learning environment to arouse, encourage, and develop children’s enthusiasm for learning, regardless of their age, gender, race, religious belief or social background. I believe that positive partnerships with families, community and relevant professionals are pivotal for children to reach their maximum potentials. It is my privilege to support every child along our exciting educational journey.
Our kinder room provides care for children aged 4-6 years old. Children who complete 4 years in the pre-kinder rooms are transitioned to the kindergarten program.
Going to kindergarten is one of the first steps your child can take to help prepare them for school. It will help them learn skills that they will keep building on as they grow. At kindergarten, your child will grow socially and emotionally. Their ability to think, use and recognize language will be developed through play, art, dance, music, movement and interacting with other. Most importantly, children are learning to become effective learners as they develop and extend their communication skills, build self-confidence, creativeness, as well as develop skills that assist them with reading, writing and mathematics.
Children are motivated to learn when they have opportunities to make choices in an environment that is enriching and stimulating. Children are curious and have a desire to learn from their environment and those around them. When children are encouraged to interact with their peers and adults in positive ways, they feel safe to explore their surroundings.
In our kinder program, we seek to guide children from needing assistance with a task to accomplishing a task independently by providing experiences that are challenging yet attainable for each child. We facilitate learning though the in-depth study of a subject that is of interest to children. Children can be highly motivated, feel actively involved in their own learning and produce work of high quality when they have the time to engage in short and long term projects. Our kindergarten teacher and her fellow educators act as facilitators and provide enriching activities so that children are supported as they learn about their strengths and work on their weaknesses. As a facilitator, they support children as they embark on a journey to make discoveries about themselves and learn to recognize and name their feelings.
